Jerod Weinman, professor of computer science at 乐播传媒入口, has been awarded a prestigious grant of $299,762 from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to organize a National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) conference for four-year institutions (CCF-2515656). This workshop, along with a series of virtual roundtables leading up to the event, aims to enhance AI education and instructional capacity among faculty at four-year colleges.

The workshop builds upon the NAIRR Pilot project, a national initiative designed to connect U.S. researchers and educators with the computational, data, and training resources necessary to advance AI research and AI-integrated studies. Supported by a broad coalition of federal and non-federal partners, the NAIRR Pilot seeks to make AI tools more accessible to a wide range of institutions and disciplines.

Weinman鈥檚 project is one of five workshops being coordinated by the Computing Research Association (CRA), with each workshop aimed at different types of institutions. His project focuses specifically on four-year colleges, with key goals that include:

  • Expanding AI instructional capacity by fostering a community of practice among faculty looking to integrate AI into undergraduate courses.

  • Developing best practices for AI education tailored to the needs of four-year institutions.

  • Building instructor confidence in utilizing NAIRR Pilot resources, which are available at .

  • Creating plans for AI coursework that leverage NAIRR Pilot resources when computational tools are required.

Weinman is collaborating on this initiative with Ran Libeskind-Hadas, Chair, Department of Integrated Sciences, Claremont McKenna College, Lisa Meeden, Professor of Computer Science, Swarthmore College, and Michael Wollowski, Professor of Computer Science and Software Engineering, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. The project is also supported by Tracy Camp, Executive Director and CEO of the CRA, and Mary Lou Maher, Director of Research Community Initiatives at the CRA.

This initiative reflects 乐播传媒入口鈥檚 ongoing commitment to innovative and impactful education in emerging fields. The NAIRR workshop and roundtables will play a crucial role in shaping the future of AI instruction at four-year institutions, ensuring that faculty and students alike have access to the tools and resources they need to engage meaningfully with artificial intelligence.
